Buurtwerking Overbeke Kerk

The neighbourhood noticeboard, run out of the parish church: what's on this week, who could use a hand, and when the doors are open.

  • Run by neighbours
  • Parish-based
  • Everyone welcome

What buurtwerking means here

Buurtwerking Overbeke Kerk is not an organisation you join. It is a handful of neighbours, working out of the parish, who keep one list of what is happening in Overbeke and one list of who has offered to help — and who make sure the two find each other.

That means the street party that needs four extra chairs, the lift to the Sunday service for someone who no longer drives, the hedge that got too high for the person behind it, the announcement about the roadworks that everyone else heard too late. Small things, said out loud, to the people on the same streets.

You do not need to be a churchgoer to read the news, come to an event or ask for help. The church is simply where the table is and where the key is kept.

What we keep track of

Five lists, kept by hand and kept current. Ask us for any of them.

Most asked about

Neighbourhood news and announcements

The things that affect the street before they affect you: works, closures, collections, parish notices.

  • Printed sheet in the church porch
  • The same text by email if you ask
  • Street-level notices, not city-wide ones
  • Corrections printed the following week

The events calendar

Everything happening in the hall, the church and the streets around them, in one place.

  • Parish hall bookings open to all
  • Coffee mornings and soup evenings
  • Street and square events
  • Add your own event to the list

Neighbour support — asking and offering

A short list of neighbours who have offered time, matched quietly to neighbours who need some.

  • Shopping, lifts and short errands
  • A hand with a garden or a heavy job
  • A visit for someone on their own
  • Sign up as a volunteer, with no fixed hours

Parish services and the church diary

Service times, holy days, funerals and the hours the church is simply open to sit in.

  • Weekly and holy-day service times
  • Changes announced before they happen
  • Who to ask about a baptism or a funeral
  • Quiet opening hours during the week

The local groups directory

Who runs what in Overbeke — the choir, the card evening, the youth group, the gardeners — and how to reach them.

  • One card per group
  • What they do and who it suits
  • Whether they are taking new members
  • List your group with us

Everything here is run by volunteers from the neighbourhood. Nothing on this page costs anything.

Write to the buurtteam

Ask for the news sheet, add an event, offer a few hours, or ask for a hand. One message reaches all of it.

  • A volunteer from the buurtteam reads every message — there is no call centre here.
  • We reply by email, or by phone if you leave a number.
  • If it is a request for help, we pass it on to the neighbour-support list and come back to you.
